Burden of Silence

About the work

A broad pale ochre body narrows towards a slender support. A small dark head rises above it on a long neck. The contrast between the substantial torso and fragile vertical defines the figure’s unusual proportions.

Large areas of untouched paper emphasise its isolation. The title connects the apparent weight of the form with an emotional condition. That reading grows from the drawing’s structure: the relationship between mass, height and minimal support.
