Fine Line

About the work

The face is shifted towards the right edge, leaving most of the sheet open. Fine lines gather around the eyes in two dark knots. A long nose and nearly closed mouth stand out among more fragmented, open marks.

The asymmetry makes white space an active compositional element. A few strokes establish a recognisable image while retaining their independence. The drawing balances the description of features with the free movement of line.
