Garden on a Crossbar

About the work

A horizontal crossbar cuts through a dense pattern of dots, circles and branching stems. Short shoots rise above it, while long rows of circular signs descend below. Large rings with toothed edges occupy the upper section, and a chain of differently sized circles forms at the centre. Small plantlike and loosely human forms share a single overall arrangement.

The drawing depends on an alternation between continuous lines and separate dots. Their equal visual force keeps dense passages legible: the eye follows a stem, then jumps between neighbouring nodes. A central axis provides orientation, but side branches and unequal circles continually shift the balance. Ornament emerges from numerous local events that retain their individual patterns within an almost completely filled field.
