About the work

The figure is assembled from large black shapes separated by narrow white gaps. The head is detached from the shoulders, round buttons mark the middle of the torso, and a long sleeve points to the right. Below, broad angular forms become bent legs. A large pale opening between the arm and knees makes the pose legible before its individual details.

The interruptions are especially expressive: a white strip along the clothing, the gap at the neck, the spaces between body parts. They lend the heavy silhouette an unexpected lightness. With no setting to fix the figure in place, the outstretched arm and bent legs read as a single gesture still in progress. The contrast of flat shapes gives the image the concentrated force of a silhouette.
