About the work

A large frontal face is framed by wavy strands and short rays. Branches with narrow leaves rise on either side, sending nearly horizontal rows of lines and dots towards the centre. Beneath the head, a thin neck enters a schematic costume with paired details. Blue outlines unite portrait, plant ornament and small eye-like shapes at the edges.

The axial arrangement suggests symmetry, yet branches and individual signs continually disturb exact correspondence. Rows of dots concentrate the space around the shoulders while leaving pale intervals. The rounded patterned mouth repeats the structure of the face on a smaller scale. The eye travels between central features and lateral plants, finding different scales of the same linear rhythm.
