Ochre Between Black Lines

About the work

Black drips, fine flourishes and scattered droplets cross a broad ochre band. Below, the colour breaks into warm golden passages among dense tangles of lines and small rubbed patches. The heaviest black forms gather near the middle, while long diagonals and isolated splashes stretch the composition towards the edges of the pale sheet.

Ochre's horizontal movement steadies the many directions of the linear drawing. Transparent colour leaves fine marks visible beneath it, whereas dense ink sharply covers the surface. This difference gives the work distinct layers of attention: major intersections appear first, followed by smaller loops, droplets and untouched spaces around them.
