About the work

A broad dark diagonal crosses a whitish surface. Vertical bands, worn passages and scraped areas remain visible beneath it. Their differing densities give the pale ground a complex texture rather than a neutral role.

The title directs the eye upwards along the diagonal. Its mass resists that movement, creating tension between ascent and weight. The painting relies on a small set of means: direction, contrast and variations in the paint layer.
