About the work
A red and pink ring sits to the right of centre, intersected by a broad pale band. An orange upright passes above it; black diagonals, short strokes, splashes and small grids gather around it. The large coloured forms anchor the eye, while the detailed black drawing continually redirects its movement. White passages between the marks keep individual crossings sharply defined.
The composition brings several scales into play. The ring registers immediately, the transverse bands reveal the larger structure, and the small signs invite a closer look. No layer entirely governs the others. This keeps the crossing open and active: the stable circle both gathers the surrounding lines and is cut through by their opposing movements.
