About the work
In Daughter, a face emerges among long white and blue brushstrokes. Pale lines cross the canvas, partly obscuring its features. One clearly defined eye holds the composition together as the rest of the face gradually resolves from patches of colour.
The tall format reinforces the downward movement of the strokes. A cool palette brings the face and its surroundings into a shared colour field. Close up, the brushwork takes precedence; from further away, the expression becomes clearer.
