About the work
A merchant and his wife stand by the main sign, while the Merchant’s Clerk marks the central sales area. The three characters connect the store’s name with its spatial design. Their placement distinguishes key zones of the shop floor.
Patinated copper lends the figures a warm tone and brings out the modelling of their clothing. Sculpture introduces a historical motif into an everyday interior at a scale close to that of the visitor.
The commission was created in 2004 for Kupechesky Supermarket at City Center, 101 Zvyozdova Street, Omsk. The figures are made of patinated copper. The shop later closed; the photographs record the sculptures in their original interior.
