About the work
A railway worker raises a signal disc in front of a metal outline of the Omsk region. Rails pass through this spatial frame, linking a geographical sign with the worker’s recognisable gesture. The open construction preserves views of the station square beyond.
The composition brings territorial and human scales together. Moving around it changes their relationship: the figure stands out against the map, then becomes part of its lines. The monument reads as a spatial system rather than an image with a single principal view.
The monument was installed in Omsk’s station square in 2007, marking 170 years of Russian railways and 110 years of the Trans-Siberian Railway. Its elements include the outline of the region, railway lines and a worker in nineteenth-century uniform.
